Sure, she might look cute in that little cotton dress you got her, but you shouldn’t stop her from playing in the mud just because you don’t want to have to get the stains out later.  A child is discovering everything for the first time, and if you tell her not to do things because you don’t want her to get her dress dirty, you’re teaching her that the appearance of her dress is more important than that groundbreaking discovery she was about to make.  Here are the subtle ways we teach our little girls that being beautiful is more important than being smart.
