Marina Diamandis (better known as Marina and the Diamonds) is a Welsh singer and song-writer. She’s fairly new and young, she’s just come out onto the pop-scene in 2010 with her debut album The Family Jewels. What is striking about her is her absolutely amazing style and energy. Read on to know more about Marina Diamandis style.

Marina describes herself as a “DIY musician” and she defines her music genre as “alternate pop.” We love everything that features alternate or alternative in its name, as you might already know. Marina’s music style is quite particular indeed. It’s a mix of electropop and indie music of some sort. She actually has very different sounds in her different albums. She even jokes about it saying that “I probably have a bit of a different sound because I don’t really know what I’m doing!” We love the gal.
Marina’s voice has been compared to those of Karen O and Florence Welsh (Yeah Yeah Yeahs and Florence and the Machine). She actually pointed at Britney Spears and Brody Dalle as her musical influences, and we can totally see where she got that from.

“My favourite beauty icons is Sofia Loren: She exudes, a very classic… beauty. She’s very feminine, which I really like. And she, she was an hour-glass which I am too.” (From an interview on the Huffington Post.)
Marina Diamandis Style
What we most love about her is her image of course. She said that her style icons are Gwen Stefani and Shirley Manson. We think that it describes her style perfectly, but she’s even more sparkling, bold and daring than those two. She has also described her style as “vintage, cheerleader and cartoon.” She was also featured on Vogue UK website, in the month where she contributed to the issue with a “Today I’m Wearing” column.
Marina’s passion for fashion and experimental clothing resulted in her own fashion line: 11 Diamonds. How can you get a Diamond look? Read on. Makeup. Marina doesn’t really care too much about a full makeup face. What she can’t just walk out of the house without are her trademark eyebrows. She needs to fill them in before she can go anywhere. Take care of your eyebrows and draw them perfectly, and boldly. The rest of the makeup is up to you. Get creative and crazy.

Crop Tops. Well, nothing new. Everyone is crazy about crop tops today, but Marina takes it to the next level. She wears regular crop tops of course, but she’s most often seen wearing vintage heart neckline tops and bralettes. She loves pairing her crop tops and bralettes with high waisted pencil skirts or leggings.
Leggings. As a typical 2000s girl, Marina loves leggings. She wears them quite a lot, of course matching them with oversized graphic t-shirts, sweatshirts and mini dresses. She loves sassy and bold prints, statement t-shirts and funny prints. But remember that she’s quite classy too, which brings us right to next point in the list.
Vintage. Marina has a strong sense of style, especially when it comes to vintage inspired outfits. She loves her pencil skirts and 60s inspired silhouettes. As we mentioned above, she loves Sofia Loren and she thinks she is her fashion and beauty icon. In the end, they both have an hourglass figure, don’t they? Go rummaging vintage and thrift stores, customize your clothes and don’t follow the trends. That’s what Marina would suggest you.
Pastels. Pastel colours are an absolute essential in Marina’s wardrobe and makeup bag. She even dyed her hair a cute pastel pink (even if her distinctive hair colour is a dark brown). Get your pastels on and channel your inner “alternate popstar!”
