The recent sexual harassment claims have spurred a flurry of discussions from all sides of the topic. Actresses, politicians, co-workers, fans and others have continued to come forward with their own experiences with sexual harassment or assault. In the move being dubbed the next feminist wave, Natalie Portman joins the discussion by bringing light to some of her own experiences.
Natalie Portman. Natalie Portman has become the latest woman of Hollywood to speak up about her own experiences with sexual harassment in the business.
Her Story. The Star Wars actress, who is also known for her roles as Jackie O and Black Swan to name a few, says the recent outburst of women coming forward has made her reflect on her own experiences.

She Felt Lucky. Portman says she once thought of herself as "lucky". She says she felt as though she managed to bypass the horrific sexual abuse situations her peers had experienced.

Eye Opener. Portman says she began to realize just how much she had actually shrugged off over the years. Listening to other women speak up about what they had endured made her realize she really hadn't been so "lucky" after all.

Harvey Weinstein And Company. According to recent interviews, Portman said her definition of sexual harassment is what made her "overlook" things that had been happening to her as well.

Defining Sexual Harassment. Most women (and men) believe sexual harassment is much more blatant and obvious than it often is. Sexual harassment isn't all about unwanted sexual exposure, rape, or groping.

It's Not Always Completed Either. Sexual harassment doesn't have to be completed either. Meaning, it can be as simple as a lewd comment about intent or hinting at anything sexual that is inappropriate. Implied intent is still harassment.
Dodged A Bullet. In Portman's case, she felt she had dodged a bullet, but realized her reaction of brushing off behavior as "normal" only managed to excuse the behavior. It was in itself a form of acceptance for attempted harassment.

What Happened. In Portman's recount, she was propositioned by being lured onto a private jet by a Hollywood producer. She has chosen not to name the producer, but instead tell her story to help others understand the breadth of the situation.

Hop A Ride. Portman recalls the incident by saying she thought she was being offered a ride on a jet with a group of others. "I was like, yeah, why wouldn't I accept a flight on a private plane with a big group of people?" she said.
Party Of Two. When she arrived to the board the plane, she discovered it wasn't a "big group of people" at all. In fact, it was just her and the producer.
Single Bed. After boarding the plane, Portman said it became apparent what the producer's intentions were. "I showed up and it was just the tow of us and then one bed was made on the plane," she stated.

Her Response. Portman says she made herself clear that she was not interested and that she felt uncomfortable and the issue went no further. "I said, 'This doesn't make me feel comfortable' and that was respected," she recalled.
Rethinking The Situation. At the time, Natalie says she felt as though she had dodged a bullet and didn't think to mention it since nothing further came of the incident. But after everything coming out in the news now, she rethought the whole thing.
Unacceptable Behavior. Portman still chooses not to name the man who propositioned her by luring her onto that plane, but she has since stated she realizes how inappropriate it was. "That was super not OK. That was really unacceptable and manipulative. I was scared," she recalled.
