If you had a dollar for every time someone told you to pee after sex… well, you’d be rich. While it’s no secret that you should hit the toilet after intercourse in order to avoid a urinary tract infection (UTI), what else should you be doing post-coitus to keep your vagina healthy? Read on below.

Why you should go commando... As it turns out, there’s way more reasons you should be getting out of bed after sex beyond avoiding UTIs. What other reasons, you say? Well, we’re glad you asked.
Why you should go commando... The folks over at Health.com recently reached out to Sara Twogood, MD, assistant professor of obstetrics and gynecology at University of Southern California's Keck School of Medicine, in order to find out why else women should be getting out of bed post-sex. Not to mention, they also asked her about what other post-sex moves keep your hoo-ha healthy.

Why you should go commando... First, Twogood highlighted the importance of hitting the toilet. We know what you might be thinking:
But what if I don’t have to pee?! Force yourself. Yes, seriously.

Why you should go commando... Even if your bladder isn’t full, it’s important that you try to flush some urine out of your system after getting’ it on. Here’s why: Your urine stream will help flush out bacteria from your urethra, which is the tube that carries pee out of your body, Health.com reports.
Why you should go commando... It should go without saying that flushing out bacteria from urethra is important. Like, very important. Health.com adds: "UTIs happen when bacteria that normally live in the vagina or colon get inadvertently pushed into the urethra during sexual activity."

Why you should go commando... If you’re particularly prone to UTis, it’s especially important to try and pee post-sex. “Lowering your odds of crazy-painful UTI symptoms such as pain and blood in your urine will be well worth the two-minute hike to the bathroom,” Health.com reports.

Why you should go commando... Next thing you should do after reaching that big O? Towel off your vagina. Yes, seriously.
Why you should go commando... While sex is meant to be wet and messy — think: sweat, semen, vaginal fluids, and beyond — it’s a good idea to grab a towel and wipe away excess moisture. No towel? Some tissue works, too.

Why you should go commando... According to Health.com, "Bacteria and yeast thrive in moist conditions, and not drying off can increase your odds of developing a yeast infection, says Dr. Twogood.” She went on to add that, "Moisture is something we want to avoid, especially to women who are prone to yeast infections."

Why you should go commando... That said, don’t wipe too hard down there. In fact, merely blotting your vagina should do the trick.
Why you should go commando... "If you feel like you need a more intense wipe-down, wash with plain water and unscented soap, and dry thoroughly,” Health.com reports. Oh, and pro tip: Don’t use fragrant or scented soaps.
Why you should go commando... Last but certainly not least, it’s important that women go commando post-sex— hence the title of this article. In other words, lose the panties after you orgasm, girl. Why? Because if you don’t, you might be setting yourself up for an infection.

Why you should go commando... "Don’t slip on underwear," warns Dr. Twogood, Health.com reports. Sleeping in the buff helps air out your lady flower and allows it to breathe, which decreases the risk of a yeast infection (or plain ol’ itchiness).
Why you should go commando... Not a fan of going commando? Don’t panic: If you don’t want to sleep naked, simply slip on a nightgown or loose, breathable PJ bottoms. Voila!
