Sleeping With Your Uncle And Other Gross Dreams Decoded

Disturbing dreams. We’ve all had them. And like other dreams, disturbing ones also have layers upon layers of meaning. For instance, ever had a dream where you hooked up with a family member? Your uncle —  or brother —  perhaps? You woke up feeling ashamed and embarrassed, right? Well, as it turns out your gross dream doesn’t actually mean you’re sexually attracted to neither blood relative. But it does mean.  Curious? Read on below.

Incest. Ever had a dream where you — gulp — hooked up with a family member? Don’t fret! Lots of people have. The question is: What does it all mean? While dreams of making out or even sleeping with a family member can be the most unsettling kind to experience, they don’t actually mean you want to do your uncle — or brother.

Incest. So, what does an incestuous hookup in a dream really mean? As contributor Ami Angelowicz explains over at The Frisky, sex dreams are all about connecting or forming a bond with someone. “It can be a longing for love from that person, a symbol of the current state of your relationship with them, or even a desire to adopt some of that person’s thoughts or attitudes as your own,” Angelowic notes. Meanwhile, over on The Date Report, the site states: "Sex with a parent may have to do with transitioning into adulthood or becoming a parent yourself. Sex with any family member can be about acceptance, deep forgiveness, a longing to be closer or heal a rift."

Incest. It’s important to note, though, if you had a real-life experience with incest and are having dreams about it, you should seek professional help. Nonetheless, if you’ve never been a victim of incest, dreaming of sex with a family member can be seemingly harmless. In other words, no need to feel all ew after waking up.

Deformed genitalia. Three boobs. Mutilated vagina. A penis/clitoris fusion. What. The. Eff. While dreams of deformed genitals are definitely alarming, they don’t necessarily mean your body is about to go haywire on you. In fact, all they really have to do with is your sexuality, creativity, and/or personality.

Deformed genitalia. As Angelowic reports, depending on the deformity experienced in the dream, you may simply be questioning your sexuality or inherent desires. These sort of dreams could also symbolize any guilt, shame, or anxiety you might have surrounding your sex life. And on the creative side of things, they could signify that you have some bottled up creativity that needs to be let go of.

Deformed genitalia. Moreover, dreams of deformed genitals can also mean that you are maturing or changing as an individual. "If you are a woman who dreams of having male genitalia or a man who dreams of having female genitalia, you may be in the process of developing the dormant side of your personality,” Angelowic says, adding that, "Carl Jung referred to these as the animus (the inner masculine part of the female personality) and anima (the inner feminine part of the male personality).”

Deformed genitalia. But what about if you dream of having a penis/vagina combination? Does that mean you were born a hermaphrodite and don’t even know it? Not quite: Turns out, if you dream of having a p/v marriage below the pants, it may be an indicator of harmony between your masculine and feminine side. Sweet!

Peeing/pooping/menstruating. While you might “release,” if you will, your bodily functions in private in real life, during your dreams, well, anything is possible. Seemingly, a lot of people have experienced dreams where they pee/poop/menstruate in public. Grossness aside, what do these dreams actually mean?

They usually stem from a fear of exposing or expressing yourself to others, especially creatively. "Searching unsuccessfully for a toilet may indicate a conflict between wanting to share your talents with the world, but having a fear of doing so,” Angelowic explains. "Causing a toilet to overflow may represent loss of emotional control or an inability to harness your potential."

Being naked. At one point or another, you’ve showed up to school or work naked in your dreams. Everyone has. However, experiencing nudity in your dreams doesn’t necessarily mean you have a strange fetish, or sudden yearning to join a nudist colony. On the contrary, in fact.

Being naked. If you experience negative emotions when naked in your dreams, it may suggest you are feeling vulnerable or insecure in real life. For instance, you may be terrified that you or your actions with be exposed to others, or may be feeling ashamed of yourself for something you have done or said. Think: The "naked truth," or "baring your soul."

As Angelowic states: "Public nudity is a classic anxiety dream about being vulnerable and shedding your defenses in front of others. In a more intimate setting, naked dreams may indicate a fear of intimacy or showing your true feelings to others.”

Bizarre pregnancies. Fetus growing out of your elbow? A baby crawling out of your anus? While weird pregnancies in dreams are most definitely difficult to shake off, they don’t actually mean you’re pregnant — unless you are, that is. So, what do they actually mean?

Bizarre pregnancies. Unless you are, in fact, pregnant, pregnancy dreams have essentially nothing to do with, well, pregnancy. "Pregnancy dreams are about new cycles or phases of our life,” Angelowic says. "It may be a new idea, solution, creative endeavor, job, relationship, or even a new you that is gestating.” In short, don’t bother running to the drug store.

Bottom line. The takeaway? Weird and gross dreams happen — a lot. But more often than not, they don’t ever actually mean what they’re portraying. So if you hookup with your cousin one night and have an infant make its way out of your ear the other, don’t panic: It’s totally normal.
