Sexual questions leave woman in tears

The humiliation of having to describe an orgasm brought the victim of an alleged indecent assault to tears in the Bellville Regional Court on Thursday.

The woman, who may not be named, was questioned by prosecutor Annette de Lange in the trial of Durbanville orthopaedic surgeon Johannes Roux Volsteedt, 53.

Volsteedt has pleaded not guilty before magistrate Andre le Grange to a charge of rape and 16 of indecent assault involving 10 women patients.

At an earlier hearing, Volsteedt's legal team of Graham van der Spuy and Di Pfaff told the court his defence to the rape charge was that the woman consented to sex with him during an appointment at his Louis Leipoldt Hospital surgery in November 1998.

The indecent assault victim told the court on Thursday she experienced an orgasm. The prosecutor asked her to explain what she understood an orgasm to be.

In tears, she said it involved physical sensation as well as a discharge on to her underwear.
Asked by the prosecutor why she had on Monday this week requested permission to testify in camera, she said she had felt embarrassed about describing her experience with Volsteedt in a courtroom packed with members of the public.
The hearing continues. - Sapa
